My job history, has landed me in Florida, The Bahamas, Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania, Chicago, and now New York City. The common thread in all my occupations, is that I made time to fish.

New York City to most people, doesn’t make you think “Fishing Hot Spot”, but this area offers some amazing access to almost any style of fishing, as well as a great range of species. The key to unlocking this resource, is knowing when, where, and how.

14 years ago, when I came to New York City, I didn’t have the luxury of all the information that the internet provides today, like Fishing Reports, Weather, and Google Maps, and since I didn’t have a car, just getting to the spot was a major challenge. Waking up at 3am, taking a train to the bait shop, then a bus to the beach, so I’d be there at sunrise, was a typical start to a fishing day, but I did it, and it was always worth the struggle. Standing on the shore, sand between my toes, sun rising, and a pod of dolphin, or cloud of birds working the surface, I knew I was in the right place. The next time, I might be stepping off the bus, in front of the fly shop upstate, with my backpack, rod tube, and anticipation for for the day. There are some amazing places within, or just outside the city.

Because there are so many options available, it can be confusing what path to take. I’ve fished solo, with friends, on party boats and charters, freshwater, and salt.
